From Scripture to Sermon
The Art of Faithful Preaching
Homiletics is at once a theological discipline and a practical craft. This course explores the theological, spiritual, and practical movement from biblical text to faithful proclamation. Grounded in the conviction that preaching begins not with speaking but with attentive listening, students will be trained to hear Scripture contextually before discerning its living voice for the church today. Structured around a fourfold movement: revelation, interpretation, formation, and proclamation, students will engage in careful exegesis, drawing on tools of biblical scholarship, while also attending to the role of the Holy Spirit in shaping the preacher’s inner life. Particular emphasis is placed on the integration of mind and heart—developing sermons that are not only exegetically sound, but spiritually alive and pastorally sensitive. Through guided exercises, sermon workshops, and peer feedback, students will practice translating biblical insight into clear, compelling, and contextually meaningful sermons. Attention will also be given to audience awareness, rhetorical clarity, and the ethical responsibility of the preacher as a steward of the Word.

The Certificate in Pastoral Formation is a program designed to equip men and women for the comprehensive demands of pastoral ministry in the church and the world. Integrating rigorous theological education with practical ministerial formation, the program prepares students to serve as theologically grounded, spiritually mature, and practically skilled pastoral leaders. The program is organized around five essential domains of pastoral ministry: theological foundations, preaching and proclamation, biblical interpretation, congregational care, and leadership. Together, these areas of study form a coherent and holistic curriculum that addresses both the intellectual and formational dimensions of preparation for ministry. Throughout the program, students are invited not merely to acquire knowledge and skills, but to be formed — as persons of faith, integrity, and pastoral heart. Learning is designed to be collaborative, reflective, and integrated with the student's own life of prayer and ministerial practice. The institute’s mission is to integrate head, heart, and hands: cultivating pastors who are theologically literate, hermeneutically skilled, and pastorally wise, whose ministry is rooted in the Word of God and offered in Christlike service to the people of God.
