Program Overview -The Certificate in Pastoral Formation is a program designed to equip men and women for the comprehensive demands of pastoral ministry in the church and the world. Integrating rigorous theological education with practical ministerial formation, the program prepares students to serve as theologically grounded, spiritually mature, and practically skilled pastoral leaders.
The program is organized around five essential domains of pastoral ministry: theological foundations, preaching and proclamation, biblical interpretation, congregational care, and leadership. Together, these areas of study form a coherent and holistic curriculum that addresses both the intellectual and formational dimensions of preparation for ministry.
Throughout the program, students are invited not merely to acquire knowledge and skills, but to be formed — as persons of faith, integrity, and pastoral heart. Learning is designed to be collaborative, reflective, and integrated with the student's own life of prayer and ministerial practice. The institute’s mission is to integrate head, heart, and hands: cultivating pastors who are theologically literate, hermeneutically skilled, and pastorally wise, whose ministry is rooted in the Word of God and offered in Christlike service to the people of God.
--------------------------------------------------------------------—These five courses are taught by experts—including Dr. Randy Furushima—who bring years of experience and proven track records in their respective fields.
Pastors and church leaders can enhance their skills and gain practical experience.
Participants will acquire the skills, practical experience, and knowledge necessary for ministry, and upon successful completion as a regular student, they will be awarded a “Certificate of Completion.”
Please note, however, that completing these courses does not confer the qualifications of a pastor or church leader; calling and approval from the respective church are required.

1.Foundations of Christian Theology-2026 Summer Intensive Course
COURSE DESCRIPTION:Christian Doctrine—We Believe
This week-long intensive course explores historic Christian doctrine through the framework of the Nicene Creed, the most enduring and unifying confessions of the global Church. Rather than approaching doctrine as a mere list of abstract statements, we will examine the Creed as a rich summary of biblical truth, forged in the worship, teaching, and theological reflection of the early Church.
This course will explore the nature of the Triune God, the full divinity and humanity of Christ, the saving work of the cross and resurrection, the ministry of the Holy Spirit, the Church, and the hope of resurrection and eternal life. We will explore how these doctrines emerged from careful engagement with Scripture and were clarified through the thoughtful and prayerful work of early Christian leaders seeking to defend and faithfully proclaim the gospel.
By studying Christian doctrine through the Nicene Creed, participants will gain both historical understanding and practical clarity. This course will equip students to teach, preach, and lead with greater theological depth and confidence in today’s ministry contexts.
About the Class : Professor Cameron Cortez from Pacific Rim Christian University in Hawaii will come to Japan to teach the class over one week.
This intensive lecture will be conducted with consecutive interpretation from English to Japanese.
Attendance is available both in-person at the Ochanomizu Christian Center and via Zoom from anywhere in the world.

Book of Daniel
Endurance for the Future
COURSE DESCRIPTION The book of Daniel is a narrative history and prophetic oracle of God's protection, provision, and redemption of his people. It is the only book in the Bible to have two distinct genres in its two halves. The first half includes familiar stories with striking images (three young Jewish boys in the fiery furnace, a hand that suddenly writes on a wall, Daniel in the lions’ den, and a gigantic statue of a man composed of different materials). The second half includes visions that are filled with highly symbolic images, rather than literal characters and places. The sovereignty of God is a unifying element in the plot and theme. The course will explore Daniel through the historical-cultural context of the roots of biblical apocalyptic thought, the literary forms associated with apocalyptic writing and symbolic visions, the various interpretations of these writings, and how Daniel connects with the New Testament. Prepare to be challenged and encouraged as we begin to unlock the scriptural treasures embedded in this fascinating book.
